Nashville Pastor’s 30 Year Old Dies of Coronavirus 

As far as his family knows, Darius Settles had no health problems. But five days after he tested positive for COVID-19, the son of Pastor David Settles of The Worship Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, died at the age of 30 on July 4.

 

"The virus is real," Pastor Settles, who is now getting ready to bury his son on Saturday, told The Daily News Journal. "It’s not a hoax, and it’s not a joke. It’s real. Even with his age, I was convinced he’ll be fine. He’s young. He can fight it off. But that was not the case."

Pharrell Williams Launches Netflix Series On Finding Undiscovered Talent To Build Gospel Choir 

Netflix and popular music producer Pharrell Williams are scheduled to release a new unscripted project promoting gospel music.

 

According to Billboard, Williams, who was nominated for an Academy Award, announced that the streaming service ordered his docuseries “Voices of Fire.” The series is said to explore the entertainer’s hometown of Hampton Roads, Virginia, as it “builds one of the world’s most inspiring gospel choirs.”

Popular Missouri Christian Camp Shutters Site After Dozens Test Positive For COVID-19 

Kanakuk Kamps, a popular network of Christian sports camps in southern Missouri which has welcomed more than 450,000 campers since 1926, was forced to shutter one of its multiple sites Friday after some 49 campers and counselors tested positive for COVID-19.

 

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services confirmed in a Springfield News-Leader report that the infections are tied to Kanakuk Kamp's K-2 campsite in Lampe. Kanakuk Kamps had five overnight camps in operation this season including the K-2 site, according to its website.

Hillsong Family Church Calls for The Wearing of Masks at Church After Pastor & Wife Team Test Positive for COVID-19 

Grace City Church, a fast-growing Hillsong Family church in Lakeland, Florida, waded into the divisive issue of mask-wearing in Florida Sunday when it announced that it would ask members to wear masks after the church’s husband and wife team of lead pastors revealed they had been infected with the new coronavirus.

 

During an online service Sunday, the pastors of the church, Andrew Gard and his wife Christina, confirmed their “mild” infection with COVID-19. The confirmation came after they gathered for the first time in person since the lockdown began for a church prayer night on June 14.

Barna: 6 Out of 10 Americans Don’t Believe ‘Human Life Is Sacred’ 

A newly released survey has found that roughly six out of 10 Americans disagree with the notion that “human life is sacred.”

 

The data came from a survey conducted by the faith-based Barna Group, which contacted 2,000 adult respondents in the U.S., half by telephone and half via online questionnaires. Barna’s researchers defined the word “sacred” as “having unconditional, intrinsic worth.”

‘Gone With The Wind’ Returns To HBO With Prologue On Racism 

The Oscar-winning film "Gone With the Wind" returned to HBO Max's streaming library on Wednesday with a new introduction highlighting the film’s problematic portrayal of slavery. 

 

The 1939 film depicts life at a pre-Civil War plantation and tells the story of Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh), the plantation owner's daughter. Despite winning eight Oscars, and Hattie McDaniel making history by becoming the first black actress to win an Oscar, its depiction of the Antebellum South has long received criticism.

California Bans State-Funded Travel to Idaho Over Law Limiting Girls' Sports to Biological Girls 

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on Monday announced that state employees would soon be banned from taking publicly-funded trips to Idaho because of two recently passed laws that it deems as anti-transgender. 

 

Becerra invoked Assembly Bill 1887, a California law that took effect in 2017 and limits travel to states that it says have engaged in discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.
